Brief History

Dalham Hall Stud

Dalham Hall Stud was purchased from the Phillips family in 1981 and was the first of the 12 studs in Newmarket which now form part of a global organisation. Among the 10 mares that came with Dalham Hall’s purchase was Oh So Fair, at the time carrying Oh So Sharp, winner of the fillies Triple Crown in 1985. The stud is used as a private stud for company mares and their progeny.

Rutland Stud

Rutland Stud was purchased in 1984 and was originally part of the Duke of Rutland’s Cheveley Estate. It is the largest of the 12 individual company studs in Newmarket, which form the UK group. It is used as a private stud for company mares and their progeny.

Hadrian Stud was purchased in 1986, along with Derisley Wood Stud, from theVanian brothers. Hadrian Stud, now merged as one with Derisley Wood Stud, is used for company mares and their progeny.

Church Hall Farm

Church Hall Farm was purchased in October 1989 from the executors of Eric Moller. The stud is used for company mares and their progeny.

White Lodge Stud

White Lodge Stud was purchased at the same time as Church Hall Farm in October 1989 from the executors of Eric Moller. Some 27 mares, 22 yearlings and 15 foals were bought simultaneously, thus ensuring the retention of one of the most successful thoroughbred families since the war. 150 acres of adjoining land was added in 2006. It is a private stud used for company yearlings. The stud is also of particular interest to horticulturists, with 10 greenhouses growing rare plant species including a large variety of exotic orchids.

Warren Stud

Warren Stud was purchased from Sir John Astor in 1989. It is the birthplace of Troy, winner of the 1979 Derby, and Fifinella, winner of the 1916 Derby and Oaks. It is used as a private stud for company mares and their progeny.

Someries Stud

Someries Stud was purchased from the Philips family at the beginning of 1991.The stud was formerly home to successful sire Persian Gulf, who has a barn at the stud named after him. The stud is used as a rest and recuperation facility for company fillies out of training.

Limes Farm

Limes Farm was purchased in 1991 and is used as a private facility for endurance training.

Rockingham Yard

Formerly known as Dunchurch Lodge Stud, Rockingham Yard was purchased in 1993 from Major Michael Wyatt. Many of the buildings at Rockingham Yard have thatched roofs, which were thought to have been introduced in the 1930’s. Used as a boarding facility for visiting mares and company mares.

Woodditton Stud

Woodditton was purchased in December 2001. The stud has been completely modernised and rebuilt. It is used as a private stud.

Moorley East Stud

Moorley East Stud was purchased in February 2005 and was formerly part of Saxon Hall Farm. From January 2008 it has operated as a private stud for company maiden and barren mares.

Moorley West Stud

Moorley West Stud was purchased in February 2005 and was also part of Saxon Hall Farm. From January 2008 it has operated as a private stud for company mares.
