Rossdales’ foal care team provides the highest level of care, treatment and 24-hour monitoring to critically ill foals who are admitted to The Peter Rossdale Foal Unit at Rossdales Equine Hospital in Exning.
The team of clinicians, specialists and professional nurses at Rossdales Equine Hospital treat more sick foals than any other equine veterinary facility in the UK. They are highly experienced in dealing with the most critically ill neonates, who are admitted for a wide variety of reasons including serious injury, disease, ventilation after a premature or complicated birth, intravenous 昀uid therapy and nutritional support, intensive monitoring following rejection or death of the dam, pneumonia, neurological or musculoskeletal problems.
Rossdales has collated data on the successful health outcomes and career prospects of 258 critically ill Thoroughbred foals who were treated and discharged from The Peter Rossdale Foal Unit over a 10-year period between 2006–2016.
Rossdales’ average survival rates to discharge have improved from around 70% in the 2000s to around 80% currently; in three of the last five years, over 85% of critically ill neonates were discharged.
